New newsletter with lots of…news!

I’m just about to send out my next newsletter…the first one this year…

My goal was to keep these going in a more monthly or bi-monthly faschion. But time kind of rushes past too quickly…

Anyway if you don’t already subscribe now!

From the newsletter:
Education material for the Ubass
In this next issue of the newsletter I will finally let you try out a portion the educational material I’ve been working on for quite some time now.

These so called Lesson Packs is aiming towards different topics and since I haven’t been able to play with my right hand because of a hand injury (more in the newsletter) the first thing up is part of a lesson focusing on the hammer-on and pull-of techniques from a future Lesson Pack 3 ”Etudes and dexterity” lesson.

In the lesson you will be able to try out the interface. I will start by releasing these Lesson Packs in the iBooks format.
This format is available only via the AppStore/iBooksStore so iPhone, iPad and Mac users (Yosemite 10.10 and up) will be able to uses these.

To check ”the market” I have made a little survey trying to find out how many of you that have access to any of the above mentioned platforms. If demand is high, I might put time into transforming/developing versions of these lesson packs for other formats/platforms.

Please fill in this survey (will take 1-2 minutes tops!)

The first lesson pack to be released is Lesson Pack 1 ”Basic techniques”.
I’m still in the process of making the video portions of these lessons, and it takes a lot of time to get these right. Can’t yet let you know about an exact date for the release but my goal is the beginning of 2016.

Jammin’ with my Kala Ubass | 49 ”Tango pour Claude” Richard Galliano | Rehearsal [COVER]

Lasse, Tommy and Magnus
Lasse, Tommy and Magnus

Hi,

Ok it’s time for my 49th video in the jamming’ series. This is a great one!

Last weekend I had a recording session at a friends house. The main focus was to overdub accordion and percussion to a track that will be featured on my first Ubass focused album. Pass: silverfish

On the link above there is a few song samples from the upcoming album AND also an old update to my upcoming interactive UBass Bass method! More about this later!

If you have followed me for a while you know that this project has been going on for a couple of years by now! When will it be ready you might ask!? Well, it has taken quite a while mostly because the focus is different constellations for the different songs. I have recordedNow I have finally decided on how to release the songs and I will send out a newsletter soon letting my newsletter subscribers in om my plan!

If you’re not already a subscriber please sign up here!

In the upcoming newsletter I will also try to release a snippet from one or two songs!

Once we were done recording the overdubs we also did a few play-throughs of a tango the accordion player had suggested we play.

I hope to record more with these fantastic musicians and the song in this video might also end up on a future ubass album!

On this video you’ll hear the great Tommy Nilsson on accordion. He works as a free lance musician and a music teacher. He plays a accordion he bought just the day before.

Side note: The Rämjes accordion is imported by a music store that I used to visit while I was younger living in Trollhättan, quite a coincidence I think!

Playing wonderful percussion (cahon and finger shakers on the track) is Lasse Fhager. He is currently working as percussion player (mainly as a timpanist) in the world reknown Swedish Chamber Orchestra that is based in Orebro, Sweden. He also used to be my drum and percussion teacher while I studied at the Örebro University.

The track they overdubbed parts to will be mixed and hopefully included on my, above mentioned, first Ubass focused album and I can hardly wait letting you hear it!

The song in the video is written by french accordion player extraordinaire, Richard Galliano.

Don’t forget to subscribe!

…AND… video no. 50 in the jamming’ series is in the pipeline. It’s gonna be a game changer I can promise 🙂

All the best,

Magnus

Merry UBass Christmas to everyone!

Some Ubasses, a Christmas tree, a UBassist and Mr. Z by the fireplace 🙂

Since I live in Sweden and we celebrate Christmas Eve, here is a little greeting from (and I’m sad to say) a snowless Sweden…
We are used to have snow on Christmas Eve but this year I hear rain against the roof as I’m writing this 😦
BUT we can still get together and celebrate. Meet relatives from near or far and just have a great time!

Yesterday I received a Christmas gift from the folks at Kala in California! It was a nice package with the great Ubassist tee and some cleaning stuff to get my Ubasses in good shape before we write 2014!
A big thanks to Mike, Rick and Mark at Kala for everything!
It has been a great year! Although I haven’t had as much time as I would have liked to, working on lessons and Ubass recordings, I’m still happy!

Yep, those UBasses will soon shine bright and be ready for 2014 🙂

I have great plans for the beginning of 2014 and will share these as soon as I can!

I will include my latest video in this post. (If you subscribe to my newsletter you might have seen it already).
It features my use of the fabulous Fretwraps by Gruvgear. It also features my good friend and musical counterpart in the country duo M&M’s Honky Tonk, Marcus Måttgård! For more about us just do a search on playubass!
Since we are a duo it’s nice for me being able to be more of a rhythm section to support the groove. Using Fretwraps makes it easier to incorporate backbeat rockabilly style playing to enhance the groove. Check out the video for more!

I hope you all have a great time and wish you a Very Merry Christmas from playubass!
